Ernst Haeckel introduced the kingdom Protista to accommodate organisms like Euglena that exhibited both plant-like and animal-like characteristics.

·         Continued Limitations:

However, this system still did not address the fundamental differences between prokaryotes (bacteria) and eukaryotes (organisms with more complex cells).
